A Use a poultice (soft, moist mass) of flour and Dawn dish detergent.

Apply the poultice to the stain and cover the area with plastic wrap. Let it set overnight. Wipe it away and then wash the area with soapy water (Dawn and water). Rinse and wipe dry with a soft cloth.

To prevent grease stains in the future, wipe up any spills quickly. In addition, granite can be sealed to further protect it from stains. Look in your hardware or home store, or ask a stone or granite supplier. They're listed in yellow-page directories.

Q I have a recipe for baking an apple pie in a brown paper bag in the oven. Is that safe?

A Don't do it. Purchase oven cooking bags instead. Ordinary brown paper bags can catch fire in the oven, and they're not sanitary. In addition, the glue and recycled materials in paper bags can emit toxic fumes when heated.
